Advent: Day 1

My kids have been anxiously awaiting December 1st and the start of Advent.  After they went to bed last night I put our advent calendar up and put slips in each pocket.  As I purchase supplies for crafts or as things come in the mail, I try to hide them from the kids so that each day is truly a surprise.

Before we started our advent activities for the day, I gave Landon a lego advent calendar. Each day he opens a flap and takes out a small packet of legos to create something for his calendar.  Today he built a snowman.  I love that the projects are easy, the picture of how to put it together is on the flap, and Landon can do it by himself.

Bible Verse:   “The days are coming,” declares the LORD,
“when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch,
a King who will reign wisely
and do what is just and right in the land.
In his days Judah will be saved
and Israel will live in safety.
This is the name by which he will be called:
The LORD Our Righteous Savior.  Jeremiah 23:5-6

Activity: Paint a Christmas tree on the patio door then cut out 25 ornaments.  Think of 25 people/families to pray for during advent.  We will add one ornament a day and pray for that person/family.  Make a paper chain to countdown the days to Christmas.

pulling the slip and reading about our activity for the day

painting the tree on the door.  the kids always comment when we drive by an office building that has windows painted for the seasons.  this was a hit and they loved it!
working on their paper chains and putting names on the ornaments for our tree
