Look what came in the mail

my very own copy of Anna Karenina!  My friend Renee has started reading Anna recently so I decided to join her and make Anna the second book I read off my list.  Although I am a bit behind Renee in my reading, I look forward to the conversations about the book and also the encouragement and motivation to keep going :o)

When Anna arrived and I saw the thickness of the book,  my heart beat a little faster. As I stated in my reading challenge, if a book doesn't capture me in the beginning,  I generally don't stick with it. I was really hoping Anna would capture me so that the process of reading all these pages would be enjoyable, not painful. So far, I am intrigued with Anna.  It caught me from the beginning - thankfully!  It still seems a daunting task to get through all those pages but I know once I am more engrossed in the story it will be pure pleasure.

I did finish Little Women last week.  I enjoyed it but I didn't love it.  I am glad that I read it, but it isn't a book that I will probably read again on my own (maybe read it with Morgan when she gets a little older).  I can't pinpoint anything that I didn't like, the story just did grab me.

One down, many more to go......

You didn't like "Little Women?"

I loved it! but I read it in high school. I would grab it, go to the park down the street and sit under a tree and disappear into the March family. It offered me peace to the chaos that was my life at the time.
I have always wondered which "little women"I am most like. I think the beauty of the story for me, is that I am a bit like each of them.

Enjoy Anna Karenia! I have never read it.

Hi, I got to your blog thru Lindsey's. Anyway, kudos to you for doing this challenge! I literally FORCED myself to read Pride and Prejudice a year and a half ago and it is now one of my all time favorite books! If you can hang with it long enough, you get lost in the beautiful words and deep story and realize that no one writes like that anymore. It was wonderful!

Oh great! I hope you enjoy them. I have seen both of the movies & really enjoyed them...especially the newer Little Women. I'm not much of a reader. Enjoy!

Yay!!

I didn't read much of Anna this weekend or today, so I'm still where I left off. Just shortly into Part 2. How far are you?

What do you think so far?

It's not the kind of book where I can't wait to see what happens, but it IS the kind of book that I think about when I'm not reading it. I really like the way he writes. His sentences are beautiful.

This will be fun!

Good job! Keep going! You can do it! Is that the kind of encouragement you were hoping for? :)

I loved Anna Karenina, so I hope you enjoy it too. Can't wait to hear what you think. I just finished Emma by Jane Austen. Liked it...didn't love it. Just didn't grab me (now I am quoting you!).

I am not a reader...but Jason is the bookworm of all bookworms.

SO, I can tell you that if a book doesn't capture me right out of the gate, it's doomed.

BUT, Anna Karenina was one of my Dad's favorite books, and I'd love to read it. Please share what you think when you're finished! Inspire me!!!

I recently watched the 1935 B&W version of Anna Karenina on TCM. I personally thought the whole thing - the story and the setting - was dreary and dark. But I do want to read the book sometime. How many pages IS it?
