State Gymnastics Meet

This weekend was the culmination of Morgan's competition season with the state gymnastics meet held in Boise.

On Friday evening, we traveled into Boise to watch some of the upper level girls from Morgan's gym compete.   As we were leaving the meet, we were talking with Morgan about her meet the next day.  Morgan looks over at us and says " I am just horrible at gymnastics.  I am horrible on vault and bars. The only event I am good at is floor." Lance and I looked at each other in shock.  Here we are the night before the state meet and Morgan's confidence is at an all time low.

Lance and I tried to reassure her, but to no avail. She was sure she was horrible at gymnastics. There were no tears. There was no whining. There was no complaining. There was just this attitude of defeat.

We were packing Morgan's bag for the meet and we found a note in her bag from one of the older girls at the gym.  There was a section of  the note that said "Don't let anything get in your way. You are the only one who can get in your way. Go out there and do your best. Most importantly, have fun! I believe in you!" Morgan reread the note and thought about what it said. I think those words, coming from someone she looked up to, rather than her parents impacted her attitude for the meet.  The entire way to the meet I prayed that God would give her the confidence to do her best. It wasn't about winning, but about feeling confident in her skills, doing her best, and enjoying the experience.

Morgan pulled out her best meet of the season on Saturday.  I am not sure when her attitude changed but she showed confidence and maturity in her performances.  It was nice to see her peak in her final competition of the season.  Morgan earned 1st place on floor, 1st place on beam, 2nd place on bars, 3rd place on vault, and 1st place in the all around for her age group. Morgan's all around score was high enough (36.8) to earn her all state honors.  Her level 4 team took 1st place at the state meet. It was a very exciting day!

Oh my goodness! CONGRATULATIONS Morgan!!!! Praise God for those little "notes" of encouragement at just the right time.

You need to post a video sometime of her competing.

It's so easy to get down on ourselves. I'm glad that she was able to have a boost in her confidence and do so amazing!!

Congratulations Morgan! That is wonderful - hopefully she is as proud of herself as she ought to be. What a gift for that friend to write that note!
