Advent: Day 1

Lego Advent Calendar:

Bible Reading:
this year i wanted to do something a little different with our bible readings.  i wasn't sure what i wanted to do but as i sat at the advent fair at our church, the hostess of the event shared an old testament prophecy and the fulfillment in the new testament.  i decided that i wanted to incorporate as many prophecies with their fulfillment this year.

Genesis 22:18  and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.

Matthew 1:1-17 A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham {1}........
Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Christ {17}

Activties:

- attend claus and paws at the zoo
 this morning i took landon, mauryn, and one of landon's friends to the zoo. it was a beautiful morning. it was a little overcast and looked like it might rain but it was mild, very mild. last year , it was so chilly but today the kids were running around without their coats on for part of the day.

we visited a few of the animal exhibits and then got in line to see santa.
 mauryn couldn't wait to tell santa what was on her wish list for christmas.

 today i kept wondering if this will be the last year landon is interested in seeing santa. he looks so big to me in this picture. {sigh!}

after visiting santa, we ventured through the rest of the zoo. they had changed a few exhibits since our last visit so it was fun to experience some new things.

- go to the living nativity
this is one of our favorite christmas time activities
it was the first year that it was warm and we didn't have to put on layers and layers of warm clothing.

this year the one disappointment with the living nativity was that they didn't have any of the live animals. usually they have a donkey, camel, goats, etc... for the kids to pet.

the kids {and adults} enjoyed the play.  it was the perfect night for sitting outside and enjoying the living nativity.
 after we watched the play, the kids grabbed a cup of hot chocolate and enjoyed sitting by the bonfire.
