Purpose

When I started this blog in August of 2007 my original purpose was to chronicle our life in Idaho so our friends and family could keep up with our adventures.

I never expected blogging to turn into a place where I was encouraged, inspired, and challenged to be a better wife, mother, woman, and friend.

I never expected blogging to be a place where I developed meaningful friendships - some still internet based and some where we have met in real life.

Over time I have found that I have become, with no better way to say it, insecure about my blog.  It will take me hours or even days to complete a blog post (hence not posting for days/weeks at a time).  I get "hung up" on making sure everything sounds right or is phrased appropriately.  I worry because I am not witty, I don't always see deeper meaning in the little things, and I am not an eloquent writer.  Since I was so caught up in those worries, I have lost the purpose for this blog.

I am refocused on the original purpose of this blog: to journal and record our life in Idaho.  I am no longer going to worry about trying to present the perfect post - what you see is what you get and hopefully you enjoy reading about our adventures and our life in Idaho.

  1. appreciate your sweet honesty and I can tell you, when I check your blog I am not looking for anything more than an update on your kiddos and your hubby and you....no need to be witty for me, or have deep meaning.

I think you would be surprised how many people, me included, just love your family and want to feel connected with the little things in your world.

No pressure my friend. I am looking forward to more posts...

  2. You know, Kristen, I had to do that very same thing earlier this year in terms of rediscovering my orginal intent. I think it's awesome to keep things in perspective like that. And I truly do feel connected to your family no matter what you write. So write on, friend!

  3. THANK YOU for posting this! What a great perspective. It was also a great reminder for me, since I struggle in some of those same areas.

I know I often feel inadequate in the area of writing witty, interesting things. And that stress makes me not want to blog.

    Thanks again, for this!

And I agree with Jenni - write on!

  4. I love your blog, no matter what you do. Even the wordless Wednesday is a highlight to my week. Keep going. Like you said, it's more for you than for us.

  5. I love your blog. I love your pictures and your stories and the variety found here. I'm glad we met this way, and I look forward to adding myself to your list of "real life friends that you met on the internet" one of these days.

  7. I appreciate your posts! My favorite blogs are like yours - filled with the stories and pictures of everyday life. You don't have to be witty or profound to touch someone's life.

  8. I love the new family picture header! And, I agree. Sometimes I add pressure to myself as well, but there is also value in just reading about another woman out there--juggling the same things as me who just presents her life as it is. So, please keep blogging!

  9. This is so true and I have experienced the same thing. That's my goal, too. And if no one but my family reads it, so be it! Also, LOVE the picture of your family in the header!

  10. As you can imagine, I too really enjoy reading your blog, seeing the kids and taking in all the beautiful pictures you post from vacations, etc. Because of that I bet you wish we had something the same so that your kids could see mine (its always nice to have a face with a conversation). Anyways, we don't do blogs, but we do have a website that my husband maintains. It doesn't have just our own lives, but more about our town and the surrounding area, but most of all it has a lot of links for people to easily have access to. Enough of me rambling on and on, I wanted to let you know that if you want to visit it it is: www.fishreportonline.com, but like I said a lot of times it has nothing to do with me, Craig or our kids. Regardless, I enjoy your blog and think it is great what you do and I'm sure you will really enjoy having it down the road to see what you did when, etc.

    Take care - Stacey

  11. I look forward to reading what I love about your blog... your family's day-to-days, adventures, victories and lessons learned! I am glad you feel "re-focused". Now if I could get back to my blog...

  13. I always enjoy your blog. I decided I wasn't going to worry about what anyone else thought and use my blog to keep distant relatives up to date on my kids as well. Also, it's the closest I can come to scrapbooking (I get it done and it's not messy), so I hope my kids will enjoy it someday. It's definitely not how I show off my creative writing skills:).

  14. i get the pressure. i put it on myself too. and then i too think, i DON'T CARE.
when it is all said and done, i want something for my kids. something so they can look back and see they were LOVED, and that they are right...their mom was Kuh-RAZY! Kuh-razy in love with jesus, his people (you), and THEM!
