Advent: Day 5

Lego Calendar:

Activity:  Make a Christmas Tree
I knew our Sunday activities would need to be fairly simple since our day is so full.  Between church, lunch, naps, and prepping for our college small group there isn't a great deal of time for a big activity.  We didn't fit in our activity today until after our college kids left.  The kids were anxious to read our devotional and get to make their project.

Mauryn's tree was simple and easy enough for her to complete on her own.  It was a cut out of a tree on green paper, foam stickers, and markers if she wanted to add some more color.  She loved it and was so proud to do it all on her own.
 For the two older kids, I gave them popsicle sticks, green paint, glue, pipe cleaners, and some jewels to create a tree.  After they dry we will add some ribbon to hang them on their trees.

I had so much fun watching them create their trees.  It was interesting to see how each of them went about putting their tree together.  I gave them their supplies and basic directions but let them decide how they wanted to get their tree put together.

Morgan painted her popsicle sticks, then arranged them, glued them on, and added her star and ornaments.
 Landon cut and arrange his popsicle sticks before painting them.  He was very precise in his cutting.  He would use the stick he had just cut as a measure for the next stick to be cut.  It was so interesting to see how his little mind was working to create his tree.  Once he had glued and painted he added his star and ornaments using a hot glue gun... with lots of supervision!

Bible Verse:  Psalm  62:5-6
 Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
   my hope comes from him.
 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
   he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
