Carnival rides.
Farm animals.
4-H exhibits.
All the ingredients needed for the fair.
Some of my fondest memories of my youth were spent at the county fair. We looked forward to fair time all summer long, even though it meant school would be starting soon. There were the 4-H friends I saw only at the fair every summer, the fair food (yum!), the rides, and the freedom of roaming the fairground without parents.
In my mind, the fair is one of those magical summer events. When we lived in MN there were three county fairs within 20 minutes of our house, on three separate weekends, and we attended each fair. Every year. Some of it was due to the fact that Lance had clients with cows at the fair so it necessitated him making an appearance, but most of it was because I love the fair.
Since living in Idaho we have attended the state fair but for one reason or another have been out of town for the county fair. Until this year. On Friday night, we ventured out for our first Idaho county fair.
The carnival was a typical fair carnival. The food was great. The exhibits were a bit on the slim side (I was a bit disappointed in the lack of exhibits). But the biggest surprise about our local fair was that your admission ticket also pays for the evening concert. The concert on Friday night was.... Kelly Pickler former American Idol contestant.
I think the fair, probably the state fair, will always be a part of our summer activities. There is just something about the fair that just draws me to it year after year.
Here is a little clip I took of Landon on the mechanical bull. I am not sure who had more fun, Landon or Lance.
So fun! I have wonderful memories of the county fair!
ReplyDeleteOh, Kristen, I LOVE the county fair! We have them in each small town around here starting at the end of the summer, into the fall. The food is AMAZING! The whole town comes out for it, so there is no end to the people you run into that you know. In my town, they have a parade with marching bands from all the area schools, floats, tractors, antique cars, etc. Many of them throw candy and/or peanuts "for the kids."
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the fair....
I have to agree the exhibits were very "slim pickin'" this year! However, we had fun looking at the entries (especailly those we entered and our friends too). Landon on the bull video was great! He held on for a long time. Is he ready to mutton bust next year?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great video! Landon was so cute. I can't believe you got to see Kelly Pickler for only the price of the fair ticket. You are so fortunate! :) We had fun too. Can't wait for the state fair.
ReplyDeleteLandon was absolutely adorable...Josh and I were cracking up! I wish we could have gone to the county fair...we will definitely be at the fair in Boise!
ReplyDeleteI love the county fair! Our fair is on right now too! We are trying to get over there but the kids are all at camp so we may just do a "girls night out at the county fair"! Sounds like a bad country song, huh?
ReplyDeleteSounds like so much fun! When I was little our school would take field trips to the stock show but I'm not sure if that's the same as the fair as I've really never been to one. I hope you guys just had a great time!!
ReplyDeleteOK, so I never grew up around county fairs, but I love those kind of childhood memories.
ReplyDeleteAnd the video of Landon is awesome!
I love the fair! We found a little county fair in CO that was a lot of fun to go to. And we're actually going to our county fair here tomorrow night!! After reading your post, I asked Andy if there's a state fair in MI. I guess it's in Detroit...on 8 Mile Rd. Hmmmm....
ReplyDeleteMaybe we'll just do county fairs. Kellie Pickler was just here for something though, so I don't think we'll get her for a surprise. :)
